Les Miserables, A Film Review

Being the protagonist and most importantly is what we’ve always wanted, to be the center of everything, but do we always have to be one of the protagonists in everyone’s story? Have we tried to be different? Or to be loved by being different, being who you really are and doing what you want to do? Be different in your own unique way? How I wish I were. I was in love with a man who also loved another beautiful young lady. How I wish to be his. How I wish I would never be alone again. How I wish I could be happy and spend the rest of my life with him. Oh how I wished for his, but I can’t. Falling in love with him made me strange, he used me to know more about this young lady, to get closer to her, even though I had already begged for his precious love. How I wish he could do the same for me, but the only thing I want to know is her heart, why can’t I be her? I am Eponine, a miserable and pure woman who symbolizes the rain. Rain makes people difficult, miserable, and sometimes even gets stuck, but rain is also the reason plants grow, the air is cooler, an eco-friendly choice for keeping compost moist, and the reason people see rainbows. Because rain is not only negative, it is also Not beneficial, rain is something one should enjoy and thank God for every drop of it that falls. This is the story of a beautiful young girl who has been miserable and has never been the center of anyone else’s life. Despite the hopelessness of her life, she is the reason the two lovers are entangled. She paved the way for their love, sacrificing herself for the one she truly loved. She may not be the main character in the Les Miserables stories, but nothing would be the same without her.

There was a beautiful woman whose life was so miserable and tragic. She was impregnated at a young age by the man who betrayed her and made her take on the heavy responsibility of keeping her daughter away from her. Although she was poor, she tried her best to earn money to find her daughter. The woman’s name was Fantine, a brave woman who renounced herself to the death to open the way for her daughter Cosette. Before she died, she asked Jean Valjean to find Cosette and raise her with the love she always wanted her to feel. As promised to his beloved, Jean Valjean seeks out Cosette and does everything in his power to win her back from the stranger who acclimates to her. A few years later, Cosette grew into a beautiful young lady and was brought up by her father Jean Valjean. Although they live in love, they hide from Inspector Javert and the authorities, who are looking for their father who stole a loaf of bread long ago. Marius saw Cosette, and they fell in love with each other from the first meeting. Marius asks Eponine for help. He wants her to find the lady he fell in love with and know her name and where she lives. Marius kept persuading her to help him, but Éponine secretly admired him. Every time she tries to help Marius, she feels hopeless and miserable, thinking that she will be alone forever, and despite her feelings, she chooses to help Marius find Cosette until they meet again. Eponine is very upset, but she chooses to scream and warns Cosette and her father that Inspector Javert is coming for them. The war broke out again, and Cosette and her father fled to avoid Inspector Javert and the authorities. Cosette leaves a letter expressing her love for Marius, which, unfortunately, is discovered by Éponine, which upsets her. She kept the letter until she decided to give it to Marius during a war with the French authorities, which resulted in her death. Before she dies in Marius’ arms, she expresses her crush on him. Marius is saddened by the death of his friend, but happy when he reads Cosette’s letter. As seen in those early years, Gavroche chose to fight for his dignity and his rights. Many died in the war, including young Gavroche and Marius’ friend Enjolras, who raised a red flag to symbolize their pride in the dignity and rights of their people before being shot. Inspector Javert was swallowed by his conscience. Seeing the blood and the bodies of the victims, he felt very regretful for what he had done, and he also chose to jump into the river to die. Jean Valjean decides to give his daughter’s hand to Marius, and Marius marries Cosette. Before his death, his father handed her a letter, telling her everything she wanted to know, and answering all the questions in her heart. This is considered a realization of Cosette. She discovers it all by figuring it out and finding answers to what really happened before. Only when she can explain and understand everything will she answer her thoughts.

Formalist criticism is a criticism that leads one to answer the solution by understanding and explaining what really happened. Les Miserables can be a form of formalist criticism because of its plot. No one tells its storyline. Viewers will be able to recognize the film by interpreting the events and scenes that appear in the film. This is a tricky movie, and the audience can only fully understand it by analyzing every situation that happens in the story.

As one of the viewers who commented on this movie, the most fascinating thing is the uniqueness of the scenes. The musical scenes and the tunes of the dialogue eliminate the dullness of the film and capture people’s interest in watching the movie. Each character’s efforts bring a different charm. Gavroche and Éponine are the most contagious, their emotions are stronger than the other characters, and the emotions they convey are from the heart and can resonate with the audience. The scenes are realistic, making people believe that every scene is real. The way people react to each scene makes this movie all the more intense and exciting. People are satisfied after watching the movie. While Eponine isn’t the protagonist, she proves to the audience that no one needs to be the protagonist in everyone’s life to be important. Everyone matters enough to live the life they want. Everyone is unique and no one should change themselves in order to be appreciated by others because everyone is God’s creation and if we can’t please others then they don’t deserve us because there are always people who value us and we are just Doesn’t seem to notice them. We always think we are miserable and hopeless, but we are loved, loved by our families, who always love us no matter who we are. God, no matter how broken we are, He loves us unconditionally and restores people.
